Cells teaching resources

Worksheets and lesson ideas to challenge students aged 11 to 16 to think hard about cells (GCSE and Key Stage 3)

Plant and animal cellsIt is always fascinating to watch a Year 7 class observe their own cheek epithelial cells under the microscope. This is the first time that many students will have seen their own cells – they have more in common with a carrot than they think!  Some struggle to grasp the scale or 3D nature of cells at first, so it helps to be explicit as you move between cell images, diagrams, models and other representations. The idea that an eye cell and a muscle cell contain the same DNA is mind boggling!

Pages below provide resources for teaching about cells.

  1. Cell structure
  2. Cell division
  3. Movement across membranes
  4. MRS GREN
